Climate change alarmists are once again falling back to a familiar heart wrenching story: Polar Bears. According to them Polar Bear populations are in danger from the ravages of climate change. If we don’t curb our use of fossil fuels and other carbon based forms of energy one third of the Polar Bear population would be in jeopardy. However, there are several issues with these dire claims about the future of polar bears.
First, Polar Bears have been thriving. The Polar Bear populations is the strongest it has been in over 40 years, and there is no evidence of the population going into decline.
Second, the ice caps are also doing quite well. Despite Al Gore’s dramatic claim that the Arctic would be ice free by 2014, Arctic ice is actually at levels last seen ten years ago in 2005. This, Combined with the recent study from the University of Northumbria suggesting the earth is about to enter a new little ice age, would seem to indicate Polar Bears are quite safe from the threat of an ice free ocean.
While Polar Bears are important, they shouldn’t be used as pawns by climate change alarmists, especially if they are pushing for policies that would eviscerate our economy.
