In early April, CFACT collegians at William Paterson University in New Jersey hosted CFACT policy analyst Gabriella Hoffman for a rousing discussion on conservation, free-market environmentalism, and the importance of a grid powered by reliable energy sources. Led by their fearless leader campus representative Ariana Alonso, the group spent months planning for her arrival by tabling, passing out flyers, and posting ads on social media.

Despite flashflood conditions outside the evening of the event, a dozen or so students braved the wind and rain to hear Gabby’s presentation. After passing under balloons repping CFACT colors and grabbing some refreshments, students took their seats as Gabby’s lecture kicked off.

Gabby’ presentation lasted over half an hour and was followed directly by a Q&A session, in which students were able to engage directly with her on a range of environmental and energy policy-related topics. Following her speech, chapter members involved in putting the event together were treated to a Chipotle-catered dinner with Gabby provided by CFACT. Ariana, a veteran speaker host, reports in retrospect that, “the event was a great success, sparking thoughtful discussion and encouraging students to explore alternative approaches to sustainability other than so called “renewable energy.” Her visit brought fresh perspectives to campus and reinforced the mission of CFACT to promote responsible and human-centric environmental dialogue.”
