CFACT’s Julia Heath successfully submits a Letter to the Editor!

Even though our semester may be winding down, CFACT’s Collegians arm is still working hard to fight for the issues we know and love. Recently, we’ve been doing that through our Letters to the Editor campaign. Recently, CFACT’s own Julia Heath was featured in the Liberty Champion, where she offered an analysis of the Green New Deal.

The Green New Deal, or GND, as it is often abbreviated, is very much popular among college students both at Liberty and across the nation. However, most serious academic studies have found that the Green New Deal would actually not cut global temperatures by any serious measure. “According to a study done by the American Enterprise Institute, the proposal would reduce global temperatures by “0.083 to 0.173 degrees,” a number “barely distinguishable from zero”, Heath wrote. Additionally, she noted that that plan would cost each individual American family the equivalent of 65,000 per year. It would also virtually triple the national debt, while increasing every family’s electricity costs by over ten per cent every year. Finally, contrary to popular belief, the plan would likely *increase* pollution, as it did when Russia implemented similar reforms.

However, perhaps the most terrifying part is that the Green New Deal’s own architects have said they are not concerned about the environmental aspects of it. “Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s former chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, even said, “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all,” and, “…we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing,” according to the The
Washington Post”, Heath noted in her article.

The Green New Deal is bad for the environment, bad for the economy, and bad for America. We here at CFACT plan to do our part in stopping it.
