CFACT UMass Offers Student Body Free Constitutions

On Friday, March 25, 2011 CFACT UMass distributed 200 constitutions to students at the university’s Student Union and Campus Center.

Reactions to the free constitions were mixed. Some students were extremely interested in the document, others accepted the gift with veneration, and a few seemed totally apathetic.

The Chairman of CFACT UMass, Dmitriy Shapiro engaged several students in conversation about the Constitution. One interesting conversation arose when a student pointed out to Dmitry that in his view the sixteenth amendment should be repealed.

The sixteenth amendment was ratified in 1913 and gave Congress the power to, “lay and collect taxes on incomes from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.”

Aside from engaging in interesting conversation and educating his classmates, Dmitriy recruited several new members to his CFACT chapter!
