UW CFACT Challenges WISPIRG to a debate

On Monday, November 16th, members of CFACT Madison’s Environmental Economics campaign publicly challenged the members of WISPIRG to a debate to be held on Monday December 7th, coinciding with the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. The debate will be centralized around the issues of anthropogenic climate change, proposed legislation, and other related topics.

The story behind this raid on PIRG headquarters goes back to an email sent by William Merrick, Enviro-Econ’s Campaign Coordinator, in which he promoted the idea of a debate to Scott Thompson, the president of WISPIRG. Scott told William that the PIRGs had ‘too much going on’. William figured Scott never even consulted his staff, and was proven correct by their reactions to the challenge. Upon presenting the idea to the staff at their meeting on Monday, the PIRGs (beside Scott) were interested in the details surrounding topics, where and when the debate would take place, etc.

Expect to see a show down to take place between the statist PIRGS and our allies in UW CFACT on Monday, December 7th.
