CFACT’s Driessen Fellow at the University of Houston, Mikel Moore, helped organize an event featuring Cherise Trump of Speech First in connection with CFACT and the Young Conservatives of Texas.
The event was to highlight the importance of free speech and liberty, especially given the threats to the First Amendment from government and corporate media and college administrators.
Speech First is a group dedicated to protecting the free speech of college students in particular. According to their website, Speech First has “created a nationwide community of free speech supporters to reassure students that they won’t fight these cases alone and that they’ll be supported every step of the way: on campus, in the media, and in court. We’re a membership association of students, parents, faculty, alumni, and concerned citizens who’ve had enough of the toxic censorship culture on college campuses, and who want to fight back…
“Speech First will protect students’ free speech rights on campus. Through advocacy, litigation, and education, we will put colleges and universities on notice that shutting down unwanted speech will no longer be tolerated.“
Cherise Trump is the Executive Director of Speech First. According to her bio, “Before joining Speech First she worked at the Heritage Foundation as the Associate Director of Coalition Relations focusing on defense policy, foreign policy, and immigration reform issues. Previously, Cherise worked at The Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) as the Program Manager. While at AHS she managed their national network of university and professional chapters which focused on bringing speakers to campus to debate professors on foreign policy issues.”
