The room was filled with activists on all sides of the issue, eager to share their views with the Council.
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Energy Resource Advisory Council met yesterday in Knoxville to talk about how they can make better decisions regarding energy resources in the future. A group made up of citizens representing environmental, industrial, educational, and community leadership. The Council also held a public listening session to hear about what regular citizens had to say on these important matters of energy.
A larger issue at hand in the public sessions was one that concerned the coal-fired power plants EPA is determined to systemically shut down with the help of their onerous regulations.
Cole Adams, a student with the University of Tennessee CFACT chapter, was there to take a stand against the increasing tendency of government to interfere with private energy practices. Speaking for around three minutes, Adams mentioned the various polls CFACT has taken regarding new coal power plants, and how despite public perception of college students, over 75% of them supported coal plants in each survey.
Adams further addressed the citizens’ advisory board, noting “When you are evaluating utilities, we ask you to keep this in mind when you are being pressured to impose mandates for renewable or to eliminate fossil fuels. Reliable and affordable trumps renewable – even for college students.”
