Several weeks ago, Driessen Fellows Hai An Hoang and Gadai Bulgac attending the University of Houston, partnered with other student organizations to host a tree planting ceremony to honor those we lost in the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
Taking on the arduous task of preparing the area ahead of time, Hai An and her friends quite literally cleared the way for the ceremony by ridding the area of some pesky mushrooms and digging a preliminary hole for the young sapling.
Thanks to the valiant recruiting efforts of Gadai, students from the University of Houston were shuttled to and from the event. After a tearful recounting of the events of that fateful September day, several attending city officials made their somber remarks. With memories of the past properly eulogized, Gadai and other student Fellows looked to the future by breaking ground and planting the ceremonial sapling.
After the ceremony concluded, refreshments and snacks were served while all in attendance enjoyed a beautiful Houston sunset.
